Aaron Cook (Scorpions) proved too strong for his peers in the Light Heavy weight category at the Junior World Championships this weekend. In his first fight of the day he beat his Afghanistan competitor 8-3 before going on to end his next two matches early in the fight using the 7 clear point rule, Chinese Taipe 8-1 and Greece 7-0. In the semi final Aaron had stiffer competition with the representative from China and at the end of the third round the match ended 4-2. Aaron won the gold in style beating Korea in the final 12-8. Aaron is the first British male to hold the title Junior World Champion and his performance puts him in a strong position to be chosen to represent Great Britain in the Olympics in Beijing this summer.
Aarons medal was not the only success of the Championships as team mate Bianca Walkden (Liverpool Elite) took silver on the final day. In Biancas first rounds she beat competitors from Canada and Russia 7-0. The semi final was hotly contested and the match was drawn after three rounds. In the golden point round Bianca was the first to score beating her French opponent to move on to the final. Unfortunately Bianca lost to Tunisia in the final and had to settle for Silver.
