Martin Stampers hopes of representing Great Britain at the Olympics have been dashed.

The 22-year-old taekwondo specialist, who trains at the Elite Club in Liverpool, has discovered his weight category is not one of those picked for Beijing.

Team GB had the difficult task of picking just four athletes out of a possible 16 to give the squad the best chance of medal success.

Stamper, who won silver in the under-62kg category at last months European Championships, said: I am truly disappointed as the situation was really out of my hands.

Coming this close though has increased my determination to get to the Olympic Games and I am going to throw myself straight back into training.
