The BTCB (British Taekwondo Control Board) have launched a dynamic new website www.btcb.org.uk, which allows members of the public to find a club near them and provides users with the latest information on elite and grass roots taekwondo.
The website will act as a new shop window for the Olympic version of the sport which is undergoing a surge in popularity and interest as three British taekwondo athletes currently undergo their final preparations to compete in Beijing.
Visitors can keep tabs on the three athletes out in Beijing for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. Doncasters Sarah Stevenson, Dorchesters Aaron Cook and Manchesters Michael Harvey are in the Chinese capital for their events which start tomorrow (20th August) with teenager Michael Harvey pitting his wits against the best athletes in the world in the -58Kg. This is followed by Aaron Cook in the -80Kg category on 22nd August and Sarah Stevenson, competing in her third Olympic Games, taking part in the womens +67Kg event the following day.
In addition to the elite element of the sport www.btcb.org.uk will provide information for people on how to get involved in the sport by offering details on taekwondo clubs around the country as well as information on how to become an affiliated member of the BTCB. The site also provides information on the rules and moves of the sport, videos of athletes in action and events happening around the country in a bid to introduce taekwondo to a whole new audience.
Adrian Tranter, Chair of the BTCB commented on its launch, "The BTCB are incredibly pleased to be launching the site at such an exciting time. The site will provide us with an excellent platform to communicate to members and the general public and allow them to communicate with us and each other. We expect the site over the coming years to be a hub of taekwondo information not just for UK visitors and members but visitors from around the world".
Andrew Link, Operations Director for Sport Taekwondo UK, commented, We have been working for some time now to create a dynamic website which befits an Olympic sport. The site will always be a work in progress as the sport grows but phase 1 is already in place and phase 2 is well underway. I'd like to thank everyone involved in pulling the site together and hope everyone who uses it has a good experience.
