Wednesday, February 04, 2009 REFORMED WTF MATCH RULES AND REGULATIONS APPROVED

"World Taekwondo Federation's (WTF) Regulations and Match Rules Reform" meeting, held in December 2008 at Turkey, has been approved. New point system, "8m x 8m ring", score review, and video replay will be in effect in the upcoming 2009 World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships in June.

On February 3rd, WTF stated "We held an e-vote until the end of January of 2009, including 60 countries, to vote on the reformed rules and regulation regulations (1/3 of the votes needed to pass)". WTF learned the new reforms have passed successfully.

WTF's reformed match rules include:
1. Ring size reduced from "10m x 10m" to "8m x 8m".
2. New point system (1 point for body shot, 2 points for back kick to the body, 3 points for headshot)
3. Scoring review available
4. 7 point difference to win; Maximum 12 points to win discontinued.
5. "Kyong go", point reduction added to opponent score.
6. Video replay system.

WTF's regulations include:
1. World Taekwondo Academy (WTA) responsible for global Taekwondo education, research and development.
2. WTF Education Committee changed to WTF Education, Training and Development Committee.
3. Creating Technical Committee for Poomsae.

WTF will hold Continental Federation Committee Meeting, from February 3rd to 6th, to implement the reformed rules and regulations. On the 5th, "Pro Ranking" will be discussed.
